From the recording It's Never Too Late

I wrote this song after getting back from a two and a half week trip to Italy and Switzerland during July 2016. My friend Daria and I called ourselves the "accidental tourists" because things just accidentally fell beautifully into place.

I just had to capture the feeling of those "sunny days filled with bliss..." And yes, I actually did eat panacotta by the Pantheon!!

The Accidental Tourists
Lyrics and Music © Maria Verven

Capellini with parmesan, pannacotta by the Pantheon
A hair-raising taxi ride that ends up in paradise
Hop the bus, with time to spare; where we land, well we don't care
No matter where we go, there's music and gelato

Refrain
Mama said there'd be days like this, she meant the worst of the worst
But some days are filled with bliss, we're the accidental tourists

Well-conceived travel plans, skip the line at the Vatican
Let's see the rooms by Raphael, the Sistine chapel's really swell
Sunny days are filled with mirth, Gregorian chants in a Roman church
Nighttime's even more sublime, we're in Rome and it's summertime

Refrain

Lifelong friends on this trip, we're on our own and loving it
Who cares about a travel guide, all we see is pure delight
Marble floors and chandeliers, everything is something here
There's beauty everywhere you look, every vista, every nook

Refrain

Capellini with parmesan, pannacotta by the Pantheon
A hair-raising taxi ride that ends up in paradise
Sunny days are filled with mirth, Gregorian chants in a Roman church
Nighttime's even more sublime, we're in Rome and it's summertime
